The Morgan Library & Museum

About the Morgan Library & Museum

The Morgan Library and Museum is one of these precious treasures hidden in Manhattan, located in the vicinity of the Empire State Building. The museum is placed in the original residence of the banker J. P. Morgan, who founded the Morgan Library in 1906 to house his private library. Nowadays, the library collection contains a significant variety of manuscripts, highlighting illuminated manuscripts; and authors’ original manuscripts, including some by Honoré de Balzac, Walter Scott, and Charles Dickens among others; and musical manuscripts like works by Mozart, Verdi, and Chopin. The collection also includes the personal art collection of Morgan, formed by Old Master paintings, and antiquities, decorating every delightful room of this museum.
